Add and edit form fields, including file uploads and hidden fields
Add a field
- In the sidebar, under manage, click forms. Right-click the form and choose edit form.
- Click Add field to under the group where the field should go.
- Pick a Field Type, such as Text, Email, Select or File Upload.
- Type a Label. The System name fills in from it.
- Add Help Text, a Placeholder or a Default Value if you like, and tick Field is required? or Half Width.
- For a choice field, click Add option for each choice.
- Click Add Field. The form saves on its own.
Drag fields to change their order. Each field's row has Edit field, Duplicate field and Delete field. After an edit, click Update Field.
Pick a field type
- Text, Textarea, Email, Phone, Number and Date Time for typed answers.
- Select, Multi Select, Radio and Checkbox for choices.
- Rating and Opinion Scale for scores, such as how likely someone is to recommend you.
- Consent for a tick box that can link to your privacy policy.
- Statement for a line of text between questions. It collects nothing.
- File Upload and Hidden, covered below.
Let visitors upload files
- Add a File Upload field.
- Set max files (1 to 5) and, if you like, a smaller max size (MB).
- Tick the types to allow: Images, PDF, Word, Excel or Text / CSV. Leave them all unticked to allow the standard set.
Files arrive with the submission, and your notification email links to them.
Capture UTM codes in a hidden field
- Add a Hidden field.
- Set its System name to the link's parameter, such as utm_source.
- If you like, add a Default Value for visits without it.
Visitors never see the field. Its value is saved with the submission and shows in your submissions and CSV export.
Limits
- Changing a Label also changes the System name, which hides answers saved under the old name. Type the old system name back before you click Update Field to keep them.
- Uploads: up to 10 MB a file and 500 MB a month on Launch, 50 MB and 5 GB on Grow and Scale, and 100 MB and 20 GB on Enterprise. The limited plan doesn't accept uploads.
- Archives, programs and SVG files can't be uploaded, and download links in emails expire after 7 days.
- Uploaded files can't be downloaded from the dashboard. Use the links in your notification email.
- There are no payment, address or signature fields.
Common questions
What does "Options cannot be empty." mean?
A choice field needs at least one option. Click Add option.
What does "Label must be at least 2 characters." mean?
The label is too short. Type at least two characters.
What do visitors see when a file is too big?
"This file is too large", with the size limit. They can pick a smaller file.
Can I show a field only after a certain answer?
