Make a multi-step form and show fields based on earlier answers

Split a form into steps
- In the form editor, type a New group name and click Add Group for each step.
- Drag fields into their groups.
- Set Display Mode to Stepped for one group per step, or Focused for one question at a time. Classic keeps every question on one page.
- If you like, fill in Welcome Screen with a Title, Description and Button Label.
- Set the form's final Button Label.
In Stepped mode, visitors see "Step 1 of 3" with Back and Next.
Show a field only after a matching answer
- Click Edit field on the field that should appear later.
- In Show When, type a rule that uses an earlier field's system name, such as topic == "Sales".
- Join rules with and or or when you need more than one.
- Click Update Field.
To show or skip a whole step, fill in the group's show when instead.
Limits
- A form uses one display mode.
- Classic hides group titles on the live site.
- The welcome screen shows only in Stepped and Focused modes.
- Rules can only use earlier fields that are showing.
- A field that stays hidden isn't required, checked or saved.
- Rules are typed. There's no point-and-click rule builder.
Common questions
Why doesn't my conditional field appear?
Check the rule for typos and make sure it names an earlier field's system name. Put text values in quotes, such as "Sales".
Can I see where visitors drop off?
Yes. Open the form, click Analytics and read Step drop-off.
Can visitors answer by chatting instead?
Yes. See Let visitors fill a form by chatting.
