Limits
- A key keeps casual visitors out. Don't rely on it to protect sensitive information.
- Everyone uses the same key. There are no separate logins for each visitor.
- After typing the key, a visitor stays in for 12 hours in that browser.
- When you change a key, visitors need the new one.
- Only owners can set a site key. Editors and owners can lock pages.
- While the site is protected, search engines and AI crawlers are asked not to crawl it.
- Locked pages still show in your sitemap.xml, so search engines can see their titles. To keep a locked page out of search, also hide it from search engines.
