HELP CENTER -> Building pages

Create page templates so new pages start with your layout

Create a template

  1. In the sidebar, click templates, then create.
  2. In Create a template, type a name and click submit.
  3. Add sections as you would on a page. The draft saves on its own.
  4. Click publish and confirm "Are you sure you want to publish this template?".

Start a page from a template

  1. In pages, click create.
  2. Under Template, pick your template.
  3. Name the page and click submit.

Change what new pages start with

Every site has a template called Default that holds your header and footer, and it's picked for you when you create a page. Edit and publish Default to change what new pages start with.

Limits

  • A page copies its template's last published version once, when you create the page. Later template changes don't reach existing pages.
  • You can't make another template the default, or delete Default.
  • Launch includes 5 templates, Grow 20 and Scale 50, counting Default.
  • Templates for collection entry pages live in their collection. See How collections, entries and entry pages work.
  • Closing the template editor doesn't warn about changes that haven't saved, so let saving finish first.

Common questions

Why didn't my page change when I edited its template?

Pages copy the template once, when they're created. Edit the page itself, or create a new page from the updated template.

Why do I see "Time to upgrade!"?

You've reached your plan's template limit. Delete a template you don't use, or upgrade.

A new page has no header or footer. What happened?

It was made from a template without them. Pick Default under Template, or add the header and footer from the partials tab.
