Fix "This project is read-only" and edit your site again

Why it happens
- "Your subscription has lapsed and this project is read-only." The paid plan ended, because a cancellation reached its end date or a failed payment ran out of retries.
- "Billing needs to be activated; this project is read-only until then." The project had an invite to automatic billing, and its date passed.
When you try to change something, the dialog "This project is read-only" opens. Owners click Resolve billing to go to Billing.
Unlock it after a plan ends
- As an Owner, click Reactivate in the banner and pick a plan under Plans. See Pick a plan and subscribe.
- Or click Continue on Free to keep editing on the limited plan, with its lower caps and the Pixelesq badge on your site.
Unlock it after an activation invite
- Click Activate billing in the banner.
- Pay any Outstanding invoices, then click Set up automatic billing. See Update your card and get your invoices.
Limits
- Your published site stays live the whole time, and nothing is deleted.
- A custom domain stays connected.
- When a plan ends, we email the Owner, and again after 3 and 10 days.
- Uploads show "Project is read-only" until billing is resolved.
- Only Owners can unlock the project. Others see "Ask the project owner to resolve billing."
Common questions
Is this the same as the trial ending?
No. When a trial ends, the project moves to the limited plan and stays editable. See What happens when your trial ends.
What happens to my work on the limited plan?
It all stays. The caps apply to new pages and other new items, and an Owner can subscribe again at any time in Billing.
